Vine Black is our exquisitely hand-crafted oil paint made with an extremely concentrated, high-quality single source pigment. Every tube is meticulously hand mulled, filled, and labeled using only pure cold-pressed walnut oil (linseed oil available upon request) and the maximum amount of hand-ground and richly textured pigment.

Vine Black is a soft, cool black pigment made by charring grapevine twigs in a low-oxygen environment, a technique that dates back to antiquity and was favored by artists from the Renaissance through the 19th century. Unlike deeper, denser blacks like Bone Black or Lamp Black, Vine Black offers a delicate, smoky texture with moderate strength and a transparent, bluish undertone.
