Description
Synthetic French Ultramarine is our exquisitely hand-crafted watercolor paint made with an extremely concentrated and high quality single source pigment mixed only with pure honey. Every pan is meticulously hand mulled, hand packed, filled, and labeled — ensuring maximum pigment concentration without any binders, fillers, or extenders. Our unique formula uses only one pigment and pure local honey, delivering a maximally concentrated watercolor paint.

Synthetic French Ultramarine is a vibrant, deep blue watercolor made from a single, high-quality synthetic pigment that mirrors the brilliance of the original lapis lazuli-based ultramarine (see our Natural Stone-Based Fra Angelico)—at a fraction of the cost. Developed in the 19th century as a breakthrough alternative to rare and expensive natural ultramarine, this color quickly became a staple in the palettes of artists like Van Gogh and Monet. Its intense, slightly violet-leaning tone, strong granulation, and excellent transparency make it ideal for bold skies, luminous shadows, glazing, and expressive work. With exceptional lightfastness and a velvety texture, French Ultramarine is a must-have for any professional or aspiring watercolorist.
