Description

Han Purple is our exquisitely hand-crafted watercolor paint made with an extremely concentrated, high-quality single source pigment. Every pan is meticulously hand mulled, filled, and labeled, using only pure local honey and a small amount of all natural, pure gum arabic to achieve an exceptionally concentrated and richly textured pigment.

Han Purple is a vivid, luminous purple that is the ancient synthetic pigment first developed in China during the Western Han Dynasty. Chemically known as barium copper silicate, this historic pigment is prized for its striking hue and cultural significance in ceramics, murals, and sculpture. Our Han Purple showcases that same brilliant, powerful purple with subtle granulation and semi-opaque coverage. Ideal for expressive washes, dramatic highlights, and historic palettes, Han Purple adds intensity and depth to any work rooted in antiquity or experimentation.
