Description

French Ultramarine Watercolor Ink is our exquisitely hand-crafted watercolor ink made with an extremely concentrated, high-quality single source pigment. Every bottle is meticulously hand mixed, poured, and sealed, using only pure distilled water and a small amount of all natural, pure gum arabic to achieve an exceptionally vibrant and richly pigmented liquid.

French Ultramarine Watercolor Ink is a vivid, deep blue made from synthetic ultramarine, chemically identical to the prized natural pigment historically derived from lapis lazuli. First developed in France in the early 19th century, this pigment produces a warm, slightly reddish blue with soft granulation and excellent lightfastness. Its luminous depth, smooth handling, and mineral texture make it ideal for skies, shadows, glazing, and classical layering techniques.
