Description

Cuttlefish Sepia is our exquisitely hand-crafted watercolor paint made with an extremely concentrated, high-quality single source pigment. Every pan is meticulously hand mulled, filled, and labeled, using only pure local honey and all natural gum arabic to achieve an exceptionally concentrated and richly textured pigment. Every paint is single pigment with maximum concentration and no binders, fillers, or extenders.

Cuttlefish Sepia is an intensely rich, smoky brown-black watercolor made from the natural ink of the common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis), historically used for writing, drawing, and painting since antiquity. Revered by Old Master artists and early scientific illustrators, sepia ink offered a warm, expressive alternative to carbon blacks , ideal for tonal sketches, figure studies, and delicate washes.

Our Cuttlefish Sepia watercolor is made from purified, traditional sepia ink, carefully bound and mulled into a smooth, semi-transparent paint. It has a unique softness and subtle warmth, with a deep brown undertone that glows in light washes. Perfect for ink-style linework, monochrome studies, and naturalistic rendering, this pigment connects artists to the classical world with each brushstroke.
