Cobalt Blue is our exquisitely hand-crafted oil paint made with an extremely concentrated, high-quality single source pigment. Every tube is meticulously hand mulled, filled, and labeled using only pure cold-pressed walnut oil (linseed oil available upon request) and the maximum amount of hand-ground and richly textured pigment.

Cobalt Blue is a brilliant, single-pigment watercolor prized for its rich, luminous blue tone and exceptional lightfastness. First synthesized in the early 19th century, this pigment quickly became a favorite among artists for its clarity, cool temperature, and subtle granulation. Unlike ultramarine, which leans violet, Cobalt Blue maintains a pure sky-blue character, making it ideal for open skies, seascapes, porcelain tones, and subtle atmospheric effects. Its moderate opacity and soft granulating texture create expressive washes and gentle transitions, while its non-staining nature allows for easy lifting and reworking.
