Description
Cape Jasmine Blue Lake is our exquisitely hand-crafted watercolor paint made with an extremely concentrated and high quality single source pigment mixed only with pure honey. Every pan is meticulously hand mulled, hand packed, filled, and labeled — ensuring maximum pigment concentration without any binders, fillers, or extenders. Our unique formula uses only one pigment and pure local honey, delivering a maximally concentrated watercolor paint.
Cape Jasmine Blue Lake is a rare, soft blue watercolor pigment made from the delicate petals of the cape jasmine (Gardenia jasminoides), traditionally used in East Asian art and dyeing. Known for its ethereal hue and botanical origin, this pigment is created through a meticulous laking process that fixes the natural blue colorants from gardenia flowers onto an alum base, forming a translucent, plant-based lake pigment.
This unique watercolor offers a gentle, grey-leaning sky blue with a subtle softness and floral glow. It’s ideal for light washes, botanical studies, antique-inspired palettes, and dreamlike illustrations. While delicate, its quiet beauty and cultural lineage make it a treasure for artists who appreciate natural color and historical processes.
