Description
Arzica Weld Lake is our exquisitely hand-crafted watercolor paint made with an extremely concentrated and high quality single source pigment mixed only with pure honey. Every pan is meticulously hand mulled, hand packed, filled, and labeled — ensuring maximum pigment concentration without any binders, fillers, or extenders. Our unique formula uses only one pigment and pure local honey, delivering a maximally concentrated watercolor paint.
Arzica Weld Lake is a luminous, botanical yellow watercolor made from the flowering tops of the weld plant (Reseda luteola), one of the oldest known natural yellow dyes. Known in Italian as arzica, weld was beloved by medieval manuscript painters, Renaissance textile dyers, and early naturalists for its glowing, lemony brilliance and remarkable purity. Our Weld Lake is handcrafted from fresh or fermented weld, carefully laked with alum to create a soft, sunlit yellow with delicate transparency and a gentle, plant-based character.
This historic pigment is ideal for botanical work, illuminated manuscripts, florals, and light-infused layering. It mixes beautifully with other natural dyes and mineral colors, offering a pure, cool yellow with greenish undertones and excellent glaze potential. Lightfastness is moderate—best for protected works, portfolios, and collectors who value historical authenticity.
